Mont Blanc
Standing on top of Mont Blanc, 4,810 meters above sea level, and looking down on the surrounding area is something that should be experienced! The climb is a week-long project that involves a lot of training and acclimatization before the summit day, which is a 10-14 hour hike. Climbing the roof of the Alps is a physical challenge that requires good physical condition. Start training well in advance, at least 1 year before. Don't make Mont Blanc your first goal in mountaineering; you should have climbed other mountains first, as climbing Mont Blanc is tougher than many other mountains that are higher.
From 2018, we will guide one guest per guide during peak days and we will not climb the route known as "Trois Monts" from Aiguille du Midi.
Program:
Day 1: Short meeting in the afternoon/evening.
Day 2: Meet at 10:00 a.m. and take the lift up to Aiguille du Midi at 3,800 meters above sea level. Hike across the glaciers to the Torino Hut at 3,500 meters above sea level. The hike is at a leisurely pace so we can get used to the altitude. The hike takes about 4 hours and offers incredible views of the Mont Blanc massif.
Day 3: Early breakfast and a climb on Tour Rond. We'll take it easy all day since the thin air slows us down more than usual. The climb is rated PD and is perfect for getting used to the climbing we'll do on Mont Blanc.
Day 4: Early breakfast and hike over to the Cosmique hut for a snack before climbing Arete de Cosmique back to Aiguille du Midi, then taking the lift back to Chamonix. We spend the afternoon in Chamonix resting and preparing for the days ahead.
Day 5:We meet at 11:00 a.m. and head to Les Houches and then up to Nid d'Aigle. From there, we hike up to the Tête Rouse or Goûter hut at 3,200/3,800 meters above sea level.
Day 6: Very early start and we climb in the light of our headlamps up the ridge towards the highest peak in the Alps, 4810 meters above sea level. The climb to the summit is really beautiful and the view is incredible. We reach the summit at 8 a.m. before starting the hike and climb back down to the train. Back in Chamonix in the late afternoon for a farewell dinner.
Day 7: Sleep in and return home.
Extra day: If you want to climb another route to the summit of Mont Blanc, this is possible, but we may need an extra day to reach the summit. Get in touch and I'll tell you more.
The weekly program above is a suggestion and may be changed depending on conditions on the mountain and the wishes of the group. Consider the summit day on Mont Blanc as an attempt to reach the summit, butif the guide does not think the conditions are right, we will do other tours on other mountains that are more suitable at the time. Do not have the summit of Mont Blanc as your only goal for this week.
